چکیده

Traditional file system optimizations typically use a oneto-one mapping of logical files to their physical metadata representations. This mapping results in missed opportunities for a class of optimizations in which such coupling is removed. We have designed, implemented, and evaluated a composite-file file system, which allows many-to-one mappings of files to metadata, and we have explored the design space of different mapping strategies. Under webserver and software development workloads, our empirical evaluation shows up to a 27% performance improvement. This result demonstrates the promise of composite files.

Adaptive Tradeoff in Metadata-based Small File Optimizations for a Cluster File System

Metadata-based optimizations are the common methods to improve small files performance in local file systems. However, serval problems will be introduced when applying the similar optimizations for small files in cluster file systems. In this paper, we study the tradeoffs between the performance of metadata and small files in metadata-based optimizations for a cluster file system. Our method ai...

Ex Vivo Comparison of File Fracture and File Deformation in Canals with Moderate Curvature: Neolix Rotary System versus Manual K-files

Background and Aim: Cleaning and shaping is one of the important steps in endodontic treatment, which has an important role in root canal treatment outcome. This study evaluated the rate of file fracture and file deformation in Neolix rotary system and K-files in shaping of the mesiobuccal canal of maxillary first molars with moderate curvature.    Materials and Methods: In this ex vivo exp...

Magellan: A Searchable Metadata Architecture for Large-Scale File Systems

As file systems continue to grow, metadata search is becoming an increasingly important way to access and manage files. However, existing solutions that build a separate metadata database outside of the file system face consistency and management challenges at large-scales. To address these issues, we developed Magellan, a new large-scale file system metadata architecture that enables the file ...

Extended File System Metadata Management with Relational Databases

Modern file systems need to handle extended metadata. Existing file systems are not equipped to handle managing metadata in the amount of files and the diversity of files that these file systems are now supporting. Users need better searching and querying capabilities. Metadata within files still remain applicationand file format-specific and is often proprietary, which makes searching difficul...

A Universal Framework for Managing Metadata in the Distributed Dragon Slayer System

In the multimedia field, metadata are becoming increasingly important for efficiently cataloguing the abundant flood of information. (Metadata are data on information structures.) The number of electronic data files made accessible by metadata increases rapidly, however, at the present retrieving textual, audio, video and/or mixed data files through metadata is definitely restricted. In particu...
